Continuing Competency Requirements
The College of Midwives of BC has a number of requirements that registered midwives must fulfill in order to maintain their registration to practice. They can be found in this section. These include regular re-certification in neonatal resuscitation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the management of maternal and neonatal emergencies.
The College has requirements for active practice the set out the minimum volume of clinical care a midwife must provide in the first two years following her registration and in any five-year period after those first two years of practice.
Midwives also participate in regular peer case review.
A variety of continuing education activities are available to BC registered midwives throughout the year, often offered in a multidisciplinary context together with physicians and nurses active in providing maternal and newborn care.
